Ukrainian soybean imports into the European Union fell 71% year on year to 81,600 tonnes in the 2026/27 marketing year through August 23, while total EU soybean imports declined 25% to 1.71 million tonnes. Brazil increased shipments to 1.48 million tonnes, whereas US deliveries dropped from 491,800 to 117,000 tonnes, raising the EU’s early-season reliance on Brazilian supply.
EU rapeseed imports nevertheless rose 3% to 530,000 tonnes. Ukrainian deliveries decreased 42% to 112,200 tonnes, moving Ukraine into third place behind Australia, at 177,200 tonnes, and Canada, at nearly 117,000 tonnes. Ukrainian soybean meal shipments also fell 52% to 88,900 tonnes, contributing to a 24% decline in total EU soybean meal imports to 2.35 million tonnes.
The article attributes the shift in Ukrainian flows to the closure of seaborne exports, forcing cargo toward EU buyers by rail and road. Rail capacity from the Ukrainian border to December has reportedly been largely booked following strong rapeseed demand. This is complicating soybean logistics and increasing delivered costs.
