Purchase prices for Ukrainian grade 2 and 3 food wheat at Romania’s port of Constanta increased by $7–10/t during the week to $245–255/t DAP, according to APK-Inform. The move reflects tighter logistics and higher global wheat prices.
Ukraine’s exhaustion of duty-free wheat quotas for EU deliveries has reportedly halted purchases at the western border, redirecting export flows toward the Danube and Constanta. With Ukrainian Black Sea ports blocked, Constanta has become a key hub for loading large vessels serving international buyers.
Danube logistics remain difficult because of low water levels, continued Russian shelling and a queue of more than 50 vessels near the Sulina Canal. Resulting delays and higher downtime costs are increasing the attractiveness of the DAP Constanta delivery basis, despite elevated transport expenses.
The market is also supported by stronger international exchange prices, limited availability of high-quality milling wheat and importers’ willingness to absorb higher logistics costs. The rise in Constanta values is expected to support purchase prices for wheat inside Ukraine, although the article provides no indication of the volumes currently being redirected.
