Ukraine Sunflower Prices Fall as Harvest Supply Meets Export and Processing Disruptions

Ukrainian sunflower prices continued to decline as rapid new-crop deliveries increased domestic availability while logistics constrained processing and exports. By October 12, farmers had harvested 7.44 million tonnes from 3.44 million hectares, or 66% of the sunflower area, at an average yield of 2.16 tonnes per hectare.

Purchase prices fell by UAH 500/t over the week to UAH 16,500–17,000/t including VAT, equivalent to $320–340/t excluding VAT, delivered to a factory at 48% oil content. Export indications for shipment to Bulgaria declined by €5/t to €475–480/t, or $530–535/t.

Russian drone attacks have reportedly disrupted receipts and shipments at ports and plants, with queues of up to 7–12 days at some factories. Ukroliyaprom warned that delayed oil and meal exports could force plants to stop, with storage capacity reportedly covering only 5–7 days of production. Vegetable-oil rail exports reached just 28,240 tonnes in the first six days of October, down 17.3% from September’s pace, with 97% routed through western crossings.

The reduced minimum sunflower export price, from $671/t to $389/t DAP, may accelerate licensing and exports to Bulgaria, but further logistical deterioration could keep pressure on Ukrainian prices.
