Modernization of the cargo terminal at the Porubne-Siret border crossing between Ukraine and Romania is expected to double freight-transport capacity and accelerate customs clearance. The first phase has been completed, including cement-concrete paving, drainage and wastewater treatment systems, radiation monitoring, outdoor lighting and a border guard pavilion.
The next phase will add infrastructure and modern equipment for customs and border controls. Once completed, four additional freight lanes will be available, raising throughput to 150 trucks per day in the direction of exit from Ukraine.
The crossing is an important overland route for Ukrainian agricultural cargo moving toward Romania and wider EU markets. Higher truck capacity could reduce border congestion and improve the reliability of deliveries, particularly for grain, oilseeds and processed agricultural products transported by road. It may also support greater use of Romania-linked supply chains when other export routes face delays.
