Algeria Buys About 600,000 Tonnes of Wheat at Higher Tender Price

Algeria’s state grain agency OAIC purchased approximately 600,000 tonnes of food wheat in an international tender held on October 13, with delivery scheduled for December 1-15 and December 16-31, 2026. The reported price was $326-326.5 per tonne C&F, including freight.

The wheat may be supplied from the Baltic countries, Romania, Bulgaria and Argentina. The tender price was above OAIC’s previous purchase in mid-September, when around 500,000 tonnes were bought at $319-321 per tonne C&F.

The result provides a significant demand signal for exportable milling wheat into the Mediterranean and may support attention on competing European and Black Sea-origin supplies. Romania and Bulgaria are explicitly listed among the potential origins, making the purchase particularly relevant for Danube and Constanta-linked exporters, while Baltic suppliers will also compete for the business. The higher price may indicate firmer replacement costs or freight-adjusted offers, although the source does not identify the final origins, sellers or exact shipment breakdown. Mediterranean import demand and upcoming North African tenders remain important factors for European wheat pricing and export flows.
